Research Question-How Long Do Hurricanes Last?

Hurricanes have a life span of 1 to 30 days. They weaken and are transformed into extratropical cyclones after prolonged contact with the colder ocean waters of middle latitudes, and they rapidly decay after moving over land areas. There are a few hurricanes that have survived for few hours, where others have moved around for several weeks before getting diluted and fading out. The existence of an hurricane is also about 9 days. Usually, storms infused in the month of August live the longest, with an average of 12 days. This is because they build up in the eastern part of the North Atlantic and pass through the long water path for several days before re-curving northward.

  1. Hurricanes can last from hours to a month. It depends on where the hurricane is to tell how long it will last. If a hurricane is close to land then it won't last very long. If the hurricane is farther away from land it could last maybe a week or more. Although hurricanes have no specific life time they usually last for about two to four weeks.
